sameAs: sound, sun, Sadako and sibilance
One of the (many) delightful things about my position with SENS Foundation is the people, meetings and events which so effectively bridge my professional and personal lives. I already blogged about the first sameAs meeting, and the second was held last week, on the subject of sound. (They’re held in London, and open to all, so I strongly suggest you check out the website and/or join the feed for @same_as.) As ever, the presentations were interesting and thought-provoking, but the highlight for me was an art piece from Semiconductor introduced by Honor Harger, whose own work includes the art collaborations radioqualia and Radio Astronomy, an art and science project which broadcasts sounds intercepted from space live on the internet and on the airwaves. At sameAs
I spent an enjoyable evening at the inaugural meeting of sameAs today. It was, as billed, “An exceptional evening of science, technology and [my]-kind-of-people.” One of the great things about my job with the Foundation is that it is a rare day indeed when I hear a talk which doesn’t make me consider, or reconsider, some aspect of my own work.
